Opinion is only as valid as its verifiable supporting evidence.
How 'bout this one? Too much gold?
Empire Scientific 388G Turntable Parts OR Project | eBay
I've never used/heard a 388G, but I owned an Empire 598 Turntable back in the 70's and it was a great turntable. I also owned a vintage Thorens TD124 back in the 80's which was from the late 50's/early 60's IIRC and I'd highly recommend that turntable if you can find a deal on one.....
EDIT: Whenever I see someone's vintage tuner (like yours) or vintage radio I'm reminded of the Twilight Zone episode where the vintage radio still picks up all the old radio shows.....![]()

Being of "Sound" Mind
No deals on Thorens 124s. The word is out. Garrard 301s and 401s are like gold.
I think finding something from '58-64ish might be tough. I could be wrong, but it was thought back then that TTs didn't affect sound too much. Most were kind of an after thought. By the 70s that all changed.
And wait, you mean I can't get all those cool old radio stations on this tuner?![]()
this lap top does the time thing quite well -
that tt looks mighty nice -
